Jerrensia

Posted by MelissaFriesen

Jerrensia March 2010 (1)If you have been reading Dixie’s blog, you may have read about Jerrensia.  If you haven’t, I would love to introduce her to you!  Jerrensia is a beautiful, five month old little girl. She is so content, and rarely cries.  Smiles come easily to her gorgeous face!

Jerrensia was born on November 7/09 and came to GLA on February 6 of this year.   Her mother brought her to us and gave her up for adoption.  Jerrensia’s father was killed Jerrensia on arrival 6 Feb 2010 (3)during the earthquake, and her mother has another child to care for as well.  Since the earthquake, she has been living on the street, and just felt like she couldn’t care for both of the children anymore.  So, she made the sacrificial decision that many parents make in this country, and decided to bring Jerrensia to God’s Littlest Angels and leave her in our care, trusting that she will have a chance at a better life than what she can offer.  Jerrensia’s mother clearly loves her, as she comes here regularly to visit and hold her.

Jerrensia is also special in the fact that she has a deformity in her legs from the knees down where her legs and feet are twisted.

We aren’t sure exactly what her condition is and we know that she was born this way.  She doesn’t seem to be in pain, and she doesn’t have much movement in her legs or feet.  If I tickle her feet, or lightly pinch her leg, she doesn’t flinch.

I have recently started spending one on one time each day with Jerrensia and God has filled me with so much love and compassion for her.  I pray each day that God would touch her and heal her, as I know He is capable of doing!  We are also hoping to get Jerrensia out to the United States on a medical visa once the government starts issuing these again.  So whether God chooses to heal her with His own touch, or whether His plan is to use a surgical doctor to do it, I am excited to see how God will work in Jerrensia’s life and receive all the glory!

Jerrensia February 2010 (3)

Please pray with me for Jerrensia…pray that God would heal her legs and also that God would be preparing the perfect forever family for her so that once adoptions open up again, that she would be able to be united with a family who will love her and share God’s love with her!

  1. I am so glad you posted this update on Jerrensia! I follow Dixie’s blog and just yesterday I was telling my husband all about Jerrensia and that I was specifically praying the she could get a medical visa and that doctors could help her. She seems like such a sweet baby. I pray more than anything that someday God will allow us the opportunity to adopt from Haiti, even though I know the chances are slim since we have five biological children. Thanks again for your updates. I love them!

  3. Hi,

I was so excited to see this post on Jerrensia. I have prayed about her since the day I saw the video that Dixie posted on her blog. She is such a beautiful baby. I emailed Dixie on Monday asking about her and let her know that we would love to help her find a doctor, hospital, and financial support. Is the US the only place her care can start? I would love to talk to you about her further if possible. My email is momtoboys123@yahoo.com. Praying for Jerrensia everyday.

  4. This condition looks a lot like the condition my sister had when she was born. It didn’t become noticeable until she was several months old. It was corrected with a series of casts. Over the course of a few months, her leg was straightened out without surgery. She’s now 31 and has no further problems with her leg. Just an idea. If surgery can be avoided, I would think that would be a good thing. Please kiss Jerrensia for my family.

  5. I wonder if Jerrensia’s mom would keep her if she got the surgery/correction she needs. It breaks my mother’s heart to think of her coming to visit her regularly! Dixie, have you asked her if she would keep her if her legs were fixed? I am sure there are some of us who would financially support this.

  6. Our daughter amanda mann worked at your orphanage in March for 2 weeks. She mentioned Jerrensia to us. My husband and I felt like God was calling us to check in on how we could adopt her or even help her with her surgeries. Amandas 2 brothers were also born with clubbed feet. They are 18 and 14 years old so we are very familiar with the process that goes on with this surgeries. We also have connection with the Shriners Hospital in Minnesota. We are currently involved with them for our younger boy and know that they would take he immediately r if she was a part of our family. We have connections with the Chief of staff who also spent some time in Haitti recently doing surgeries on children. We pray Gods will be done in her precious life. jim and jamie mann
