Smiles from the Eyes of an Angel
This is a post about a darling little boy. This little boy is unlike any other. Each child that God brings to our doors and into our hearts is unique and amazing, they have truly individual gifts and talents. They carry individual hearts that beat to a love that they have known, and a hurt that they have endured. Each one captivates us in a different way, and connects with us in a different way.
Several months ago, before the chaos of what I now call the Summer of 2012 I shared a prayer request about a beautiful little boy whose uniqueness captured my heart and drew me to him. Not many people have had the privilege of knowing him.
But I have.
And the season in his life that I have been allowed to be a part of I will cherish forever. This little boy shielded so much pain, hurt, fear, he held it deep inside and refused to let us in…
We have a dedicated passionate Haitian staff at the GLA Toddler House who can feel the pain of these little ones often times deeper than anyone as they KNOW the pain of loss, suffering, struggle, and hopelessness more than most of us from the developed world can begin to imagine. They will tell you it is not easy, it can be physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausting. They rely daily on the Holy Spirit to fill them with enough to meet the needs and help heal the hurts of those whom God has placed in their care. These ladies don’t shield their emotion they embrace these children as their own.
These ladies took this boy, this darling little boy who refused to hope, and poured love into him with abandon. They willed him to believe that he was precious. To believe that though he lost everything that he had known in but a moment as he watched his provider turn his back and walk out of the yard, that he could trust again. They showed him that they love him as their own, that he has a place, and that place is here, they showed him that life is beautiful, the life of knowing love. This darling little boy who had us on our knees in prayer, had us laying awake at night worrying over his little sickly body and saddened soul, this little boy who refused all food but popcorn, this little boy who used all of the little strength he had to seal his mouth shut from the syringe fulls of pedialyte that his dehydrated body craved… this darling little boy has been transformed before us.
A miracle of His Father’s love and a healing from above.
This little boys lights up the world when he smiles, which he does anytime we call his name, anytime he sees a friend, anytime he feels a raindrop fall, anytime he receives a kiss.
This little boy has a fire that glows from his eyes… a fire that has been rekindled deep within his heart.
This little boys has no doubts about where he belongs, or who he belongs to.
This little boy brings delight to our lives with every laugh, every giggle, every tease tap and run away.
This little boy has 10 big brothers who spoil him at every moment.
This little boy has HOPE and with that revelation in his life, we can be encouraged in the hope that we know because of the truth in which it is founded.
“And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 5:5 (NIV)
