I have set at my desk from 7:30 AM until 8 PM trying to get 11 proposals out to waiting adoptive parents, writing letters that I needed to do before I left, and trying to answer a few emails too! Because I sat there all day, now my back is killing me. Three pain pills and hopefully, I’ll be good enough to pack before I go to bed!

I keep thinking that I am forgetting something that I am supposed to take with me to the States, but I cannot think what it is! In the middle of the day, the “statue” man came to sell me some wood carved statues. I think he is over priced because a few years ago, I could get a wood statue for a reasonable price and now he asks US Dollars and his prices have tripled. I did not have much patience with him today, so I left Laurie to deal with him! She bought 3 statues for 80 dollars less than what he was asking me. She does better than I do bargaining with the merchants. But at least I got 3 nice statues for the fundraiser in Colorado on the 18th.

Monday, we received a container full of tents and lots of food! It was from Edmonton, Canada. Then today, we received another container from Edmonton, Canada! That is the last of the Canadian containers that are in Haiti. We still have one more container that is from the USA that was “lost” on the dock, but found a week or so ago. We will be so happy to have a small break from unloading containers, sorting donations, and distributing them out. It is a lot of work and tiring work, but rewarding work too! But it will be nice to have a short break for a couple of weeks.

On Tuesday, the staff and volunteers distributed 400 bags of donations to people in the Kenscoff area. A lot of people came out to get their bag of goodies! They are already making more bags to distribute on Monday. This time, we will do 300 to 400 and give them out to families.

In the middle of all of this, they brought our new water purification system and started to set it up. When it is finished, all of the water in the house will be filtered water. Even the water coming out of the sinks! We hope this will cut down on some diarrhea in the nursery.

Pastor Brandon gave a nice little devotional right after supper tonight. It was about 10 minutes and I think it was enjoyed by all.

Well, I better go pack. I hate leaving but I really need a break and just some rest out of Haiti.

Look at our photos from the containers and distribution1

This DVD features behind-the-scenes footage and many exclusive extras from Like Dandelion Dust, a movie produced by Downes Brothers Productions and based on the book from bestselling author Karen Kingsbury. Now learn the stories behind the making of the movie, see how real life has been impacted by fiction and how the making of Like Dandelion Dust inspired another popular Kingsbury fiction series.

Founded by Family Christian Stores, The James Fund is excited to present this second edition in the Faith In Action series. In keeping with the mission “to look after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27), The James Fund continues to chronicle inspiring stories of those who are heeding that call to action.

Included on the DVD are one-on-one interviews with Karen Kingsbury and award-winning producer Kevin Downes, a dramatic orphan rescue that took place following the Haiti earthquake, a new video about The James Fund and extra Kingsbury book trailers. As a bonus, a special video details how to start an orphan care or widow care ministry in your church.

The movie, Like Dandelion Dust is the compelling drama of a young boy caught between his biological parents and the only parents he’s ever known. Someone must make a brave decision and learn that sometimes the greatest love is letting go.

I just spoke to our son, Patrick, who is living on the property in Fort Jacques. He said that on their way home this afternoon that hail started coming down. It was a clear hail and not the white hail that North Americans are used to seeing. He thinks there may be some damage to his dad’s truck that he is driving while John is gone to the States! They did not get the heavy rain like we did here, but got heavy hail instead!

Patrick lived in Colorado and Colorado in known for getting hail all year round! In fact, we recently got a new roof put on our home in Colorado due to hail damage!

Strange weather in Haiti today.

Sun was shining when we went to church this morning. Then about 3:30PM without any warning, the heavens opened up and rain started pouring down! It started so fast that by the time I put my laptop on the couch and got up to shut the window, the floor was running with rain water. I then hurried in and shut the boys bedroom window and my bedroom window. My curtains were soaked by the time I shut the window.

Within minutes the main road outside the orphanage was a river with water running down it! Steeve, Mark, and the neighborhood kids had gone to the water falls and I was scared of flash flooding because within seconds that ravine can have water moving so fast through it that there are waves rolling boulders down the ravine!

Thankfully, they had left the ravine but by the time they got here they were all soaking wet! Can you feature what it must have been like down in a tent city?

Now at 7:30PM, it is pouring down rain again along with lightening and thunder this time! As hard as it is raining and the wind is blowing, I know tents have to be falling down!

Please be praying for everyone living in tents and outside in this deluge!

Pastor Brandon Jordan asked me once when I said I was fussy, at what point does someone grow out of being “fussy”? Because we usually say that a baby is fussy and not an adult!

But that is the way I have felt the last few days. I am just irritable, little things bother me, I feel like my muscles are cramping all over, and I am just out of sorts! I keep telling myself to just stop being irritable, but that is not working!

Maybe it started when I was doing all of the work on the Paypal monthly donation buttons for two days in a row? Or maybe it was when 10 staff members did not come to dinner one night and did not bother to tell me they were not coming, so we cooked for 20 people when there were only 10 here!

Maybe it is because I am leaving in 5 days and I need to give 10 proposals before I leave! Maybe it is because two more containers are coming out on Monday and we have 400 donation bags that need to be delivered to families on Tuesday!

And then maybe it is just because I am “fussy” and need a good 8 hours of sleep which I have not gotten in 2 months! But whatever the reason, I have been “fussy” the last couple of days and I guess the answer to Pastor Brandon is that some people NEVER outgrow being FUSSY!

Our daughter, Laurie, who has been in charge of GLA accounting in Haiti since 2004 hopefully is taking a position with GLA in the USA and leaving Haiti in the next month or two.

Living in Haiti can be very restrictive for a young woman. Laurie feels like it is time to move back to the States and have a life outside of GLA work. As a mother, it is hard to see her go…in fact it just about breaks my heart, but I want her happy too. I also want her to find the man God has chosen for her, so that she can someday have a family of her own.

Not seeing her or talking to her everyday will be very hard on me!

So, I am looking for an accountant or bookkeeper to come take her place in Haiti. The position also requires the person to be flexible and willing to do whatever work is required at the mission. This may be unloading containers if needed to sorting donations. The most important word in the life of a Christian worker is flexibility!

Accountant/Bookkeeper in Haiti: We are looking for someone with a working knowledge of Quick Books, spread sheets, computers, and can work closely with our Foreign and Haitian staff to keep the financial side of GLA running smoothly. Must be a Christian with strong moral values. Position requires at least a 1 year commitment to stay in Haiti. Small stipend and free room and board provided. Starting date: October 2010

We are doing DNA on all kids who come for adoption. The International community (UNICEF, SAVE the CHILDREN) and foreign countries adopting from GLA recommend DNA on the children especially since the earthquake. I used to do DNA for American adoptions anyway so will just do for all children now.

I am sending out proposals starting tomorrow. I have decided that September is the month to start adoptions again. The DNA will not be done on all of the children, but we are working on getting it done as quickly as possible.

I worked all day today on a new web page called “Donate Monthly with a Credit Card”. Some of our donors asked for automatic recurring credit card donations for other GLA Ministries like I did with sponsorship. So, I tried to do it for all of our other ministries. Someone try one of them out and let me know if it works! http://www.glahaiti.org/credit_card_donations

Carrol Williams, our new adoption coordinator, will be going home for the birth of a new grandchild and also a daughter’s wedding on September 8. She will return on September 28.

Susie Schuelke, our new update coordinator, will be going home for her best friend’s wedding on the 15th and will gone 5 days.

I will be leaving on September 9th and will return in October. I will attending the GLA annual Fundraiser in Colorado Springs and would love to see several of you there! My 90 year old mother is flying out to go to the fundraiser, as is my oldest sister who lives in Florida.

I am also going to be working on updating some of the web site while I am out. John and I are spending two days hidden away by ourselves! I have not even told John where we are going! We will only answer the phone if it is someone from Haiti! We will not be working. I may even leave my laptop at home…maybe.

John and I need some time away from work and just alone together for a couple of days. We will be doing nothing except sightseeing and sleeping late! At least that is the idea right now! LOL

We started out the day with a clean warehouse. There was very few donations in the warehouse because they had all been given away! People were lined up ready to hand the donations from person to person. We had two lines. One line was for diapers, baby moist wipes, medical, and tents. The other line was for clothing, shoes, blankets, towels, and sheets. The first truck arrived around 11 AM and the next three came about an hour apart. This worked well for us because we could get the one truck unloaded, the donations stacked in their pre-assigned location, make all of the stacks nice and neat, before the next truck arrived!

We had enough time to have fun! Someone donated 8 to 10 boxes of T-Shirts and so everyone put on a T-Shirt and we took their photos! We also received 12 incubators from British Columbia. We put them all in the barn when we unloaded them, but then they had to be rolled back up the driveway because we wanted to store them in a tent until all of the containers have been unloaded.

We are short of volunteers right now. We had a team who were supposed to arrive on Wednesday who cancelled because of the threat of the hurricane that turned north and did not hit any of Haiti or Florida. Another volunteer who was supposed to arrive today, did not come. We do not have another team coming until the middle of October! We could use some volunteers between now and October 12, if there are anyone who can come on short notice, please email me at DIXIE or call 719-638-4348 for more information.

We pulled in several of our young teenage boys in the community that play basketball at our house every day to come and help. Georges and Jocelyne came from Port-au-Prince to be here, They are such a big help to GLA several times per week and we feel that they are truly a part of the GLA family!

God provided people to help this time. We have 3 more containers for GLA and we need people to help unload, sort, and distribute the donations in Haiti.

IS GOD CALLING YOU TO COME HELP???

Never forget your sponsorship payment for your child again! You can set it up by year or month. Several options are available.
