Rescue? Hey Wait A Minute!
I need to acknowledge and thank Jon Acuff for this post idea. You can find his take on it at The Bible as a Self Help Book? His article prompted me to take a closer look at Jeremiah 1:7-8.
7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
There are two things that struck me about those two verses:
“Do not say, ‘I am too young.’” Gulp – I guess that wipes out a lot of the excuses that we all make about doing what God wants us to. “I’m too young” can also be translated “when I’m out of college” or “when my kids are older” or “when we get the house paid off” or “when the kids leave the house” or “when ……..
God effectively takes all of our excuses for doing what He wants and throws them out the window. Like I said, “Gulp.”
Then read on to vs. 8.
8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
That sounds good – don’t be afraid, I am with you. Right? Yes, right. And that should give us the confidence to follow through and do what God wants us to.
But wait a minute – “will rescue you?” What’s with “rescue?”
God calls us to follow Him, to do what He calls us to. He doesn’t promise that it will be easy. As a matter of fact, He promises that it will be something that we’ll need to be rescued from.
That means that to follow God’s plan for our lives will probably be very difficult and there will be times that we’ll need to be rescued.
But it will be worthwhile, oh so worthwhile.
As you and I pray and ponder what God wants us to do, pray that He will give us all the courage to step outside of our comfort zone and make a difference for Him.
If you’d like to talk about ways that you can make a difference for Him by helping the children in Haiti, give me a call or e-mail me.
Thanks for listening, reading and caring,

Hi Tom,
My computer does not have Microsoft office obviously because everytime I try to click on an email address I my computer does not allow me to send an email. I am actually a moron when it comes to computers. I was hoping Jean Bell or somebody in your Colorado office could email more information about adopting from Haiti. My husband and I have officially been together for more than 10 years so we can start the process. thank you so much
