Rain – Prayer Requests and Ways You Can Help
Prayer Requests:
- Pray for a drought. Well, not actually a drought because they do need to grow crops, but with literally thousands and thousands of people living in tent cities, they need a “dry” rainy season. Along that line, I’ve put a “widget” near the bottom of the main page (on the right side) that will tell you what the weather is like in Port Au Prince. Can I ask you a favor? Every time you stop by the blog for the latest on what’s going on, scroll down to the weather widget and say a prayer. Ask God to keep the rain down to the minimum necessary and also that HE would keep the people living outside in Haiti free from disease.
- Pray for a spirit of cooperation among organizations. Pray that the damage done by the Americans from Idaho would be overcome and that government agencies and other organizations would start trusting each other and use a discerning eye to see which organizations are reputable and can do good for the children of Haiti. Pray that the damage to the lives and the emotional health of the children living in tent cities will be minimal until the obstacles can be overcome and we can move forward in caring for the victims of this horrible tragedy.
- Pray for emotional and physical strength for the caregivers on the ground in Haiti. The stress will continue to take it’s toll and we need to remember them in our prayers constantly.
- Pray that God will be glorified through the actions of those helping in Haiti.
- Pray that Haiti will “rise from the rubble” a better and stronger government and people than they had before.
Ways That You Can Help:
Depending on who you talk to, the start of the rainy season in Haiti is anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks away. Oh and that’s not the start of hurricane season. That’s a whole different disaster potential. In light of that, we’re renewing our call for help for the community. They need short term and immediate relief from the weather.
How can you help? It’s pretty simple. We need to help the people in Haiti who have no homes prepare for and survive the rainy season. To do that, we need:
- Tents – all sizes but the bigger the better.
- Ponchos – have you ever been camping in the rain? Now imagine camping in the rain with no trailer to dry off in – for 4 months.
- Umbrellas
- Tarps
- More of the Rubbermaid Totes. We have gotten over 200 of the containers and they are on their way down to Haiti in the container that was sent out last Friday.
I told you in the previous post about the Rubbermaid Totes that if you ordered them from Amazon, my Amazon affiliate account would get credit for it and I’d spend all of that on earthquake supplies. I’m happy to report that as of this morning, Amazon will be essentially donating $528 worth of earthquake relief due to using their affiliate system.
I’ve put the “Amazon Widget” just below this so that if you want to order from Amazon, feel free to. All you’ll need to do is click on one of the items and it will take you through to do that.
But I want to make one thing perfectly clear – it’s not necessary to buy them through Amazon. We would like to have all of the same type of Rubbermaid totes because it makes stacking in a container easy. But beyond that, any type of umbrella and any type of tent and any type of poncho and tarp would work well. So, use God’s money wisely and let’s help take care of the people in Haiti!
How many do we need? Frankly, I’d like to see if we can get 1000 of each (or more) to send down on the next container.

I have been following GLA since the original earthquake. Can you please contact me via email, as I work long days M – F?
I will try to call you, as well. I see a need that we may be able to fill.
