One Person Can Make A Difference
Tom here, I just got the information in this post sent to me about 10 minutes ago and it’s such a powerful story that I had to pass it on right away.
A little background for you –
when the earthquake hit – I, like many others was feeling a little hopeless in my efforts to help. I was and am a stay at home mom with a two year old and a newborn (so
there was no chance in my getting on a flight down there to help) and my husband and I had already written a check to the American Red Cross. I still felt this hopeless feeling, watching the news daily and seeing their horrific struggles. I saw a piece on Fox news on the orphan situation and I knew immediately that was where they needed help and also whom I had to help!
I did some research and found Gods Littlest Angels. At this time, only three days after the quake, they had pictures up of their 90 babies sleeping in the driveway for fear another earthquake would hit. Within days I was in direct touch with the orphanages US coordinators (out of Colorado) and also in touch with the director of the orphanage, Dixie Bickel. They expressed to me how desperate their
need was before the earthquake and now after. They had needed baby supplies before and now their need was dyer.
Also, in my research I knew that this was a legitimate organization as Dixie was on the Today show twice and was and is a weekly contact on Larry King Live.
So I started sending emails out, reaching out to friends on facebook and asking Aubuchon Hardware (my husbands family business) for help! Within a week I think we had about 8 pallets filled with baby supplies and all 130 Aubuchon Hardware stores collecting supplies and cash donations for the orphanage.
We have now sent a FULL truck off to Colorado with baby supplies. And we are still collecting!![]()
We are going to continue this effort as long as we have people committed to helping these children. Aubuchon Hardware is in complete support of this effort and will send trucks down as often as needed.
Please contact me with any questions or if there is anyone in New England who wants to help! – gretchen aubuchon 508-459-1799.
best, gretchen
